FAQ

1. How much does it hurt?

Ah, the eternal question…Okay, yes. Our Birmingham waxing and hair removal is never 100 percent pain free – no waxing experience ever is. What most people never tell you is that the first time is always the worst and the more regularly you wax the less it hurts. In fact, if you commit to waxing right when your hair grows out (about 4-5 weeks for most people), the root has less time to take hold in the skin and the easier (read: less painfully!) it comes out.

Ninety percent of my clients say “Oh, that was not as bad as I made myself believe it was going to be!” Most of the pain is in your head (and of course, ridiculous and very funny scenes in movies featuring Steve Carell). My advice? Get in! Get it done! Get it off your list! You will enjoy it later.

2. How long should I wait before my next Birmingham waxing experience?

For reasons mentioned above, I highly recommend coming between 4-6 weeks after your last wax. (If you maintain this schedule, the hair does not have time to take a strong root, which means less pain for you). Also, coming in every 4-6 weeks ensures minimizing “stubble” time and helps keep you looking and feeling smooth! That’s why we offer the Sexy Skin Rewards Program– it will give you a chance to experience the true benefit of waxing hair removal.

3. I want to get a bikini wax for my upcoming [insert occasion of choice here], when should I schedule the appointment?

Before a trip or any special occasion you should try to build in a few days between wax and your special occasion. Your skin needs some comfort and care after a wax (some people’s skin is more sensitive than others) and some redness is normal for a few hours after. In other words, don’t get a wax the morning of your wedding. A day or two before will be just fine.

4. How do I prepare for a Birmingham waxing service?

Come with super clean skin and wear loose clothing. If you are having a body wax, it really helps to gently exfoliate the area in the shower beforehand (not the face, however!). Also, don’t wear any lotions or perfumes near the area to be waxed. Taking an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen half an hour before can really help as well.

5. How long does hair need to be?

You will need at least 2-2.5 weeks of hair growth for body waxing, and 2-3 weeks for facial waxing. Any less than that will not give you optimal results. If you find someone that will tell you otherwise they just want your money!!

Let me explain:
If you come to me with a shorter than the aforementioned length I will wax you, but you will be leaving my studio with what we call “stable hair” and that is not how I like to work my business. Two weeks of hair growth means that you don’t have all 3 stages of hair growth out (see below for the technical answer). You neeeeeeeeeeeed 2-2.5 weeks before all of the 3 stages are grown out to get the best results. (I don’t want your money if you are not getting the results that make you happy. You happy = Me happy!)

The Technical Answer: Humans have three stages of hair growth: anagen (first stage); catogen (second stage); and telogen (third stage). When you think about hair growth, try to envision it like this: first, Anagen begins to come in and after about one week of Anagen growth , Catogen begins to take over. Around week three Telogen sets in and doesn’t complete its cycle for at least another week. There you have it. That is why you need to wait between three and four weeks for the hair to grow out for the perfect Birmingham waxing experience.

6. How far in advance do I need to make a Birmingham waxing appointment?

I do prefer that you book ahead of time.
If you can give me a week’s notice, it will help to ensure that you are getting the time that will work best for you. The farther ahead you call, the more flexible I can be. But of course, I understand the last minute emergency wax situation, too! Bottom line, I’m here for you!

7. What if I am running late for my appointment?

Traffic, sick child, sick husband, sick dog, late meeting… we’ve heard (and experienced) them all.  And we understand. But, some times our next client doesn’t.
So, next time you are running a bit late, please give us a quick call to make sure we can still fit you in for your full professional Birmingham Brazilian or other wax.
If you are running more than 5 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, chances are we will either need to reschedule or your appointment time will be cut back and services will be lost.
